Moon Flare

Nikon D40 @ 130mm, ISO200, f5.6, 0.77 sec.
This is a composite of two images, one exposed for the moon while the other exposed for the sky.  Only then can it portray the beautiful scene I saw, a clear full moon surrounded by a halo shining the nearby moving clouds.

Unfortunately this image does not do the scene justice, I really need a good sturdy tripod =/ This is my first try in blending two images together, what do you think?

Sand Crab

Nikon D40 @ 200mm, ISO200, f8, 1/25 sec.  Cropped, partial Gaussian blur, warm touch up.
A tiny sand crab coming out from the safety of its burrow to check me out.  From the amount of sand balls outside, this crab has one deep hole.

Taken at July last year, I was testing the macro capabilities of 18-200VR.  The result was acceptable =)

Ferry

Nikon D40 @ 18mm, ISO200, f11, 1/500 sec, cropped (kit lens)
The only ferry running the route from Menumbok to Labuan and vice versa. Seeing how it is always packed with vehicles, I do not understand why the government still overlook the idea of building a bridge connecting Labuan to the mainland.

Fruit Stall

Nikon D40 @ 31mm, ISO200, f5, 1/100 sec (kit lens)
Fruit stall along the road to Sipitang. Godsis and I bought Tampoi, the hanging orange fruits as it was new to us. The flesh looked and tasted like a mangosteen, but my tampois were on the sour side =(

Playing with the RAW file, unfortunately my new laptop's screen is not very photo editing friendly so I can't tell whether this looks good on a proper monitor =(

Playful Red Lories at Labuan Bird Park.

Malay name : Nuri Merah
English name: Red Lory
Scientific name: Eos bornea bornea
Family name: Psittacidae

Please excuse the jagged edges around the birds' heads, it happened during the saving process and I can't seem to get rid of it even though I saved it at 100% quality for a JPEG =/

Flags

Nikon D40 @ 18mm, ISO200, f22, 1/100 sec
Flags flapping in the wind. This is one reason I love about Sabah, blue skies abound!

This picture was edited from a JPEG image. I am not very skilled with RAW processing to get colours as brilliant as this yet.

Top Deck

Nikon D40 @ 18mm, ISO200, f22, 1/125 sec
The ferry's top deck that is decorated with a variety of flags. On the right is the captain's control room.

This image was processed from a RAW file using UFRaw and GIMP. It's not my first time processing a RAW image with them, but this is the the first one posted =)

Deck

Nikon D40 @ 18mm, ISO200, f22, 1/100 sec
Outside the passenger deck on the ferry bound towards Labuan. The fee is only RM5 per head while the journey takes one hour.

The passenger deck (within the glass windows) is somewhat air conditioned and there is a television inside so the journey won't be too boring. There's also a canteen inside selling snacks at twice the normal price. Besides that, there's also a VIP lounge that costs RM13 for added privacy. Passengers are free to roam around the ferry (or even stay in their cars if they choose) throughout the whole journey. The only drawback is the ferry only runs twice a day from Menumbok to Labuan and vice versa (4 trips total) so you better don't miss it!

Run!

Nikon D40 @ 200mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/10 sec
An interesting photo taken at Labuan Bird Park. Tried to mimic lomo effect as taught by a photography magazine, but I don't think I am doing it right. It was still fun to do though!

Multiple award winning Persian cat from the first Borneo International Cat Show held on 23rd and 24th August, 2008 at Sabah Trade Center.

Been feeling photo editing withdrawal, couldn't bear it anymore so downloaded and installed GIMP on this temporary laptop. What do you think of the result?

In Loving Memories

Panasonic DMC-FZ5, telemacro mode, cropped.
A tribute to the twins Jojo and Jiji, who passed away last night and at noon earlier today respectively.

See the flower as dying and you will see the flower sadly. Yet see the flower as part of a whole tree that is changing, and will soon bear fruit, and you see the flower’s true beauty. When you understand that the blossoming and the falling away of the flower is a sign that the tree is ready to bear fruit, then you understand life.

Look at this carefully and you will see that life is its own metaphor.

Always remember, you are not the flower, nor are you even the fruit. You are the tree. And your roots are deep, embedded in Me. I am the soil from which you have sprung, and both your blossoms and your fruit will return to Me, creating more rich soil. Thus, life begets life, and cannot know death, ever.

Offerings

Nikon D40 @ 26mm, ISO200, f4, 1/60 sec
Preparations of hell bank notes as an offering for ancestors during Chinese New Year's eve. Besides the notes themselves, there are also fake jewelleries, gold blocks, clothes, shoes, watches and pretty much everything imaginable made of paper to be burned during the praying rituals later.
